How to feel calm on the inside…
…rather than just faking it on the outside
In the rush of school life, feeling calm and centred is perceived as a luxury, a mythical place that is always out of reach. For many of us, even the space to tune in and become aware of how we are feeling is elusive as we rush through the day. But what would be the impact if we could navigate the sprint of the day with a feeling of ease? If we were able to meet what arrived with a deep sense of peace rather than pasting an unruffled veneer on the turbulence within?

Quiess is a part of the Schoolgenie programme and enables genies to harness more internal stillness.
The name comes from Latin meaning "rest" or "quiet" and it is a series of simple movements and breathing to still the mind and body. It works within the moments you do it and the effects ripple into the day.
If you practise more regularly the effects become embedded. So it is a practice for a quick fix and longer, more profound change.
A simple Quiess move
Stand with your feet about shoulder width apart
Let your arms hang by your side
Shrug your shoulders up and let them fall comfortably back down into place
Close your eyes or lower your gaze
Notice where you feel your breath
Breathe comfortably 10 times
Hold your hands out in front of you as if you were holding a small football
Start to gently pulse your hands in and out as is squeezing the ball
You may notice a sense of the energy between your hands, like a force field or sense of air between your hands
Notice your feet in the floor
Notice your breath
Continue to gently pulse you hands and breathe
Know that all will be well
