You are making so much sense - you are rambling!

No one feels worse after a walk.

Getting out, gaining space and perspective and moving your body always has a shifting and renewing effect, yet when it comes to collaborating, coaching and supervision we tend to feel chairs, a table and being static are required.

Somehow we infer that that the real ‘work’ is done indoors in a professional-feeling space.

Ramblings is part and parcel of the Schoolgenie life and training. Heading out in pairs on a walking route, to hold a space and listen to one another in a loosely structured way has profound effects.

So how does one ramble?

  • Choose your partner and decide who is A and who is B

  • Pop your shoes on and head out

  • Partner A holds a space first; starting with a question,

  • "What would you like to ramble about today?"

  • Partner B then has a given time frame to talk freely about what they would like. When they feel they have run out of what they want to say or are stuck they say this to partner A. i.e. I want move on or I am stuck

  • Partner A listens and when partner B asks for what they need partner A can ask another question or offer an observation to move partner B’s thinking forward.

  • Once the allotted time is up, partner A & B offer something that they appreciated about each other from the ramblings and then they swap roles for person A to be able to ramble

What are the benefits of ramblings?

  • Space to think and be listened to promotes psychological safety

  • Noticing the natural environment helps to prompt thinking

  • A feeling of release due to less intensity and a feeling of needing to be productive or profound by walking side by side rather than sitting eye to eye

  • Moving your body creates change and understanding without the need for mental effort

  • Connection with nature is soothing to the senses

We invite you to give it a go, grab your comfy shoes and a partner and ramble your way to clarity.
